When you are getting married in Scandinavia, it’s important to pay attention to some of the edgier beliefs. We asked bride organizer Mariella Gink to grant us the lowdown on some of Sweden’s distinct customs

Before marriages in Viking periods, the bride do get a bath to cleanse herself and figuratively soak ahead her innocence. Then she would leap into cold waters to reflect the transition into womanhood. Her hair was also a big deal. She had weave it into elaborate locks to reflect her masculinity, and the more sophisticated her locks were, the better it boded for the partners. In Norse traditions, it was common for couples to send each of their guests home with donations. This is a history that carries on today. It is common to see a gift registry at Swedish weddings, but it’s not the norm to acquire huge monetary achievements, as most people can afford to buy themselves a current.

After the ceremony, it’s time to observe! Swedish weddings are known for their lengthy, intricate breakfast celebrations.
